Goodbye 2015, Hello 2016!

Goodbye 2015, Hello 2016!

Goodbye 2015, Hello 2016!

Just a quick one today for you lovely people. How did your New Year’s celebrations go? Did you go and do anything special, or did you (as seems to be a bit of a trend as I’m getting older) forego any kind of celebrations and go to bed before midnight?

We had quite a great New Year’s Eve. It started off quite tamely, and ended up being a race to get home before the sun came up!

But sometimes I think they’re the best kind of nights, you know?

Elle and Alan came over for some pre-drinks and nibblies before we headed off to our destination for the evening.

We were lucky enough to be invited to a rooftop BBQ in an office high-rise right on the river in Brisbane. Our friend Joe works in the building as a barrister,  and he and his partner Kat organised a great night of champagne, food and music, with a pretty decent view of the fireworks.

It was nice to catch up with some people we don’t usually see very often, and the only dampener on the evening was quite a stiff breeze and a silly woman wearing quite a breezy short dress (that’s right, yours truly)! Below you can kind of see it. I wasn’t in the mood for lots of photos outside so I amused myself by concocting all manner of drinks inside.

That’s a Pimms, soda water and berries – interesting!

We took in the 8.30pm and midnight fireworks, and caught up with old friends (and made some new ones!) in the interim.

The Grand Finale

After the clock struck 12, we made our way to Fortitude Valley to meet up with Trent, Loretta and some of their friends. They were visiting from Melbourne and attended a James Bond-themed NYE party at the amazingly lush club, Cloudland. Wall to wall plants, chandeliers, and gold fittings (fake, I’m sure!) make you feel like you’re in an opulent greenhouse/atrium. We joined them for the after party, and even though it was packed to the rafters with people, the three levels made for plenty of room for us all.

We chatted and danced until I was absolutely exhausted, headed to get some valley delights (aka chips from Oporto’s) and caught an uber home at the reasonable time of 4am. We got home just as the sun came up, but still at a reasonable enough time to get a few hours sleep before awaking rested and refreshed (…just kidding)!

All in all, it was a fabulous way to ring in the New Year. Over the next few weeks I will be posting more about my intentions for 2016, and am very excited to be doing it as part of a linkup with Catherine at The Beautiful Mind in her #BeBold2016 linkup!

Did you set any New Year’s resolutions this year? I’d love to hear about your intentions for the year ahead!
